About the Design Studio
The “TOWN” is emphasized in our name because, while we may be designing an individual building or property, our extensive experience in urban design, planning, and architecture means we look for design solutions that fit the character and scale of the place, in small cities, town centers, villages, or walkable neighborhoods. Our “TOWN” approach emphasizes being a good neighbor and creating an attractive streetscape regardless of whether you are renovating and reusing an existing building or home, building something new, or planning for a town center or neighborhood.
In-TOWN has a deep appreciation of our classic downtowns, small town hamlets, walkable neighborhoods, and historic architecture. We specialize in historic, vernacular and classical architectural design, but are well-versed in architectural styles ranging from traditional to modern.
Michael S. DiGeronimo, AIA, NCARB, AICP, PP
Principal and Founder of In-TOWN Design Studio LLC
In-TOWN Design Studio was founded to build upon Mike’s years of experience in architecture, urban design and planning. He has a strong background and passion for context-sensitive design and integrated placemaking. Mike’s versatile set of skills and project experience range from small individual buildings and sites to large scale regional plans.
Mike graduated from Georgia Tech’s architecture and planning programs. While at Tech, he participated for a year in their exchange program with the Ecole d'Architecture de Paris-la-Villette in Paris, France where he was able to travel and experience the great architecture and urbanism of Europe which helped generate his interest in urban design and placemaking.
Mike began his career in Atlanta with Historical Concepts working all around the Southeast on residential architecture of estate properties and Traditional Neighborhood Developments (TND) building types in classical and vernacular architectural styles. He was able to gain valuable experience working on planning and residential design and detailing in several ground-breaking New Urbanist communities during early years of that movement and learned practical application and skills as he completed graduate school.
Mike returned home to New Jersey in 2000 to join LRK’s Princeton office working on urban design, planning, and residential and mixed use architecture projects for a wide variety of places in the Northeast, South, and Midwest. The project work included designing sites and buildings for Transit-Oriented Developments (TOD); TND communities; and downtowns and town centers.
Before starting In-TOWN, Mike spent a several years working for a local residential firm on historic home restorations and residential renovations and new single-family homes, with an emphasis on historic, vernacular and classical detailing.
He is a licensed architect in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, a licensed planner in New Jersey, and holds the AICP certification, the national credential for planning.
Mike lives in a century-old home in a walkable neighborhood in Summit, NJ with his family. He is a member of Summit’s Historic Preservation Commission and a former member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment. He stays active volunteering with his children’s sports and other activities. Mike loves travelling, especially places with great architecture, public spaces, and neighborhoods to explore and photograph.
